Rotary kilns can be divided into cement kilns, metallurgical and chemical kilns, and lime kilns according to the different materials processed. Cement kilns are mainly used for calcining cement clinker, and are divided into two categories: dry process cement kilns and wet process cement kilns.

1. With high output, it’s suitable for large active limestone production line. Many kilns with 150-1000t per day have already been built both at home and abroad with good operation and they’re well applied to medium and small-sized limestone enterprises.

2. Rotary kiln belongs to open calcination. It has simple structure and smooth air flow with smoke containing sulfur discharged in time. The sulfur in the fuel is not easy to adhere so products contain less sulfur which meets the requirements of steel making.

3. The rotary kiln can directly calcine fine limestone about 10-50mm. generally, the limestone accounts for 30-60% of the total output while this part cannot be utilized by other kinds of kilns.

4. The kiln tail is equipped with vertical preheater which makes full use of high temperature smoke produced inside the rotary kiln and preheats the limestone to the primary decomposition. It not only improves the output but also reduces the energy consumption for unit product;

5. Tail head is equipped with vertical cooler, which cools the high temperature limestone, increases activity degree and makes it convenient for convey and storage. Meanwhile, it can gain secondary wind above 700℃ and effectively increase the temperature and reduce the fuel consumption as well.

6. Smoke discharged from the vertical preheater has low temperature between 280-350℃ with low dust content about 20g/Nm3. It offers simple and effective configuration of following treatment equipment of the smoke and satisfies the requirements of environmental protection.

7. When high temperature smoke is in the heat exchanger, the exchanger makes the smoke less than 180℃ and large particles settle down at the same time. It not only prevents the bags of the dust catcher from being impacted but also effectively reduces the inlet temperature. In addition, it prolongs the useful life of the bag of the dust catcher and increases the operation efficiency of the whole machine.

Rotary kiln is rotary calcination kiln belonging to the equipment for construction. It can be divided into cement kiln, metallurgical and chemical kiln and limestone kiln according to different materials. Cement kiln is mainly used to calcine cement clinker. There are dry and wet cement kilns. Metallurgical and chemical kiln is mainly used to magnetized baking of lean iron ore of steelworks in metallurgical industry; oxidation baking of chromium and nickel iron; baking clinker and aluminum hydroxide in aluminum manufacturer and high bauxite in refractory plant; baking chromium sand and powder in chemical plant. Limestone kiln (active limestone kiln) is used for active limestone and soft burning of dolomite in steelworks and ferroalloy works.

Working principle of Rotary Kiln

 The drum is made of steel plate equipped with refractory liner inside. It forms the specified slope with 3 tires on supporting device. The materials exchanges heat with the hot smoke adversely. Materials join from the upper kiln (also called cold end or kiln tail). They move and roll axially because of oblique installation. The burner spray fuels from the lower end (also called hot end or kiln front) and the smoke is exhausted from the higher end. Materials are heated during the movement and are qualified to be discharged from the lower end after physical and chemical reaction.
